Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo

Dark Comedy

This new show will have you laughing and scratching your head at the same time.

This highly original new play by Moises Kaufman gives us a chance to laugh at a topic that has been a constantly serious subject in the American Psyche for way too long.

Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo Broadway show is the story of a mangy Bengal tiger held captive at the zoo in Baghdad, Iraq. The tiger (narrated by Robin Williams) deftly tells the story of two American Marine soldiers, two sons of Saddam Hussein, an Iraqi gardener, and a couple of other characters along the way – all caught up in the drama of the Iraqi War and the violence of Baghdad. This brave show is both dark and funny at the same time. There is a theme of war throughout and the violence is not for the faint of heart. Somehow, the show manages to toe the line between overly violent and inappropriately funny and ends up being an incredible production that everyone should see.

Bengal Tiger makes its premiere at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City on March 11, 2011. The show made its world debut in Los Angeles in 1999 and was a finalist for last year’s Pulitzer Prize for drama – losing out to the incredible Next to Normal. The Motherf**ker With the Hat

Drama

The newest play by Stephen Adly Guirgis lays it all out on the table – starting with the title.

This bold play holds nothing back in its story of lifelong love and the addiction that threatens to ruin it. Director Anna D. Shapiro has assembled one heck of an ensemble cast with Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Annabella Sciorra and Yul Vazquez starring. The most exciting addition to the cast is the incredibly versatile Chris Rock who is making his Broadway debut. Scott Rudin is producing – his Denzel Washington led Fences was a smash hit last summer on Broadway.

The Motherf**ker With the Hat tells the story of a couple — Jackie and Veronica who have been in love with each other since the eighth grade. They are one of those couples who could truly spend the rest of their lives together if it weren’t for one major problem – drug and alcohol addiction. Jackie is finally sober with the help of AA and his sponsor Ralph D but Veronica is still battling her own addiction demons. It’s the brutal and sometimes funny dialogue that fuels this production. This is a show that you won’t want to miss!

War Horse

Drama

Through the use of award winning puppetry, beautiful costumes, and a minimalist stage setting, Nick Stafford’s War Horse Broadway show brilliantly captivates audiences.

Don’t let the word “puppet” turn you off of this production. We’re not talking about just any old puppets. War Horse features two life sized horse puppets – each brought to life by three human puppeteers working in and around the puppet itself. Through their combined movements, the horses come to life. Flanks quiver, hoofs paw the floor, and tails shake – movements so real that you’ll forget that you’re not watching real horses on the stage. The sculptural quality of the horses themselves is evident and beautiful as the puppeteers bring them to life.

War Horse is about a young British man named Albert who doesn’t have much more in life than his horse Joey. When World War One begins to spread across Europe, Joey is sold to an army captain to ride into battle. The show was adapted from a novel by Michael Morpurgo whose use of Joey as the story’s narrator was heavily influential on the creative direction of the play. In the stage version of War Horse, the horses are the protagonists as well. Though Albert and his quest to find his beloved horse by enlisting in the army himself is a central part of the story, the real hero is Joey and his other horse friend, Topthorn.

War Horse has been playing on London stages for three years and makes it New York City debut April 14. Don’t miss your chance to see this incredible production. This is a show that will have you raving to your friends — it’s a can’t miss moment in Broadway theater history.
